Shall I draw Father Christmas?!

I have to admit that I am starting to feel rather overwhelmed by Christmas. And it’s only the first weekend in December. It seems like everywhere I turn (in the real world and in the online world) Christmas  is right there in my face! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas, I love the excitement and the special family time, but I could really do with a couple of weeks away from all the craziness first! I’m seriously contemplating not making a set of Christmas doodles this year, it seems that there is soooooo much out there already! What do you think? Should I doodle up some Santas and reindeer? Or shall I sit here muttering, “Bah! Humbug!” and draw something else entirely? Decisions, decisions…

My it’s-too-early-for-Christmas-but-I-am-already-overwhelmed-by-it general grumpy scrooge-ness is the reason for my slightly different take on this month’s BYOC – I ditched the holly and went for some Hanukkah doodles instead! These were a special request from one of my CT members, the lovely Mic:

and here are a couple of layouts from my guests this month, the first by Julia:

and the second (very different approach) by Cintia:

Let me know what you think – Christmas doodles or no Christmas doodles, you decide! Have a lovely weekend :)

Kate, I think you should do some scroogish or grinchish doodles instead. I’m feeling very much like that right now and I know a lot of others are too. I could totally see you doing something a little seussish (pardon my spelling) instead!

Yes!!! on Christmas doodles. We love them. I make mini 4×3 holiday cards for my kids to give to friends and your holiday doodles are perfect!

Maybe you could combine the two and do some Scrooge/Grinch/Bah-Humbug related doodles?

Ooooh I love the scrooge grinch doodle idea! But I would also love to see some Christmas doodles from you! Little elves, santa, reindeer and other christmas goodness

Ok Kate, not that my opinion matters but I totally want you to do some grinch like doodles. Kind of whimsical, “Whoville”, Cindy Lou Who, the Grinch, Etc.. I think you would do these amazingly and it would be such a different take on the holidays for those of us who are also feeling a little overwhelmed! I can already see the Green man in his santa suit and that cute little dog of his w/ reindeer antlers and a sleigh full of Who Trees and gifts. Come on…how much more do I need to beg. Pretty please!! I also would love to see a wintery village, (like Oberammergau) snow balls and kids snowball fighting. Like a snowball w/ some look to it that it’s flying through the air.. (well i have the image in my head anyway) Please…………………………….
    Hugs,
    Theresa

kate dearest – i wish for you a merry christmas season. you have some doodles from christmas past that could momentarily reappear – a fab candy stripped alpha as well, so take the season off. love the family, friends and moment.

Oooh the grinchy ones sound perfect for so early in the season. I agree it seems Christmas kicked off full swing last week. I think it’s the earliest it’s been this full on. But will you hate me if I say my shopping is all done? Ok don’t hate me, I won’t say it. :P

Enjoy the season, we can be grumpy in January!

I usually get a major case of Grinchy Bah-Humbugs myself this time of year. All the pressure and chaos of trying to get everything done gets to me. Oddly, this is the least Grinchy I’ve been in years… I think I’m just in denial. LOL I say draw whatever you feel like… Christmas-ish or Humbuggy or something entirely different or take it easy and do nothing at all. ‘Tis the season for peace and joy… in whatever form you like. :)

You can make anything and I like it! :) I’d love something Christmas mixed with music. I’ve got 3 kiddos all in concerts and musicals and recitals. It’d be fun to have something that reflects music of the season. That makes me feel rather joyful! :)

    Katie,

I found you and your Festival of Lights kit from a Facebook link. NO idea if you are JEwish or not, but you ROCK! I LOVE this kit so much. There is so little done for Hanukkah (or Jewish holidays, in general) and I am thrilled with this kit!

    Thank you so much.
